The search for a missing man at Singletary Lake State Park in Bladen County is continuing for the fourth evening. Katie Hall, with NC State Parks, said on Tuesday afternoon that searchers plan to return to the lake on Wednesday.

Hall said windy conditions on Tuesday morning hampered efforts to search for Jesse Sgro, 22, of Fayetteville using drones, helicopters and sonar equipment. However, she added the conditions at the lake improved in the afternoon.

When asked about the number of acres at the park which have been searched since Saturday, Hall said, “A great deal of the land area around the lake is not navigable due to the underbrush.”

The search for Sgro began on Saturday after he was reported missing by his church group. Hall said the group arrived at Singletary Lake State Park on Tuesday. She added different members of the group arrived at different times. Hall said the group was planning to leave Singletary Lake on Saturday when Sgro was reported missing.

Hall clarified that the group noticed Sgro was missing and initially attempted to search for him Friday night at around 3 a.m. when he did not return from an evening of canoeing on the lake. On Saturday morning, when Sgor still had not returned, some of the group went back to the lake to look for him again and reported Sgro as missing to park staff at 10 a.m.

Hall said searchers are planning to resume the search again on Wednesday morning.
