MurderTwasjay Roddreek Brown was arrested Monday and charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of Jerome Melvin in October 2014, Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker said Wednesday.

Brown, 21, was found near Jasmine Lane outside of Clarkton on Monday after investigators received a tip about his whereabouts from the N.C. Probation and Parole Office in Elizabethtown, McVicker said. He was taken into custody without incident, McVicker said.

Brown is in Bladen County Jail and is being held without bail.

Authorities had been searching for Brown since the Oct. 28, 2014 shooting death of Melvin at a mobile home on Sammy Lane in a park off N.C. 242 south of Elizabethtown. Melvin’s girlfriend and a child were in the home at the time of the shooting, but were not injured, according to the 911 call. Melvin was shot about 2:30 a.m. when he went to his front door, according to authorities.

Ernest Raysean Gray, 23, of Clarkton, was taken into custody on first-degree murder charges in November. He remains in Bladen County jail.

“This is just another fine example of the law enforcement community working together to get a dangerous suspect arrested and off the streets,” McVicker said.
