Anderson-2013Southeastern Health (SeHealth) announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS) in two areas: strategic services and information technology software conversion. Southeastern Health will continue to operate as an independent, non-profit community hospital, maintaining the same leadership, board of trustees and employee base. The partnership agreement will enable SeHealth to take advantage of group purchasing discounts and will give the organization access to strategic expert resources from the larger CHS.

“This agreement will save our organization a tremendous amount of money while giving us access to resources that are typically only available to much larger health systems,” said Joann Anderson, president and CEO of SeHealth. “As a rural community health system, this will position us to move forward successfully in an ever-changing health care environment.”

In addition to SeHealth and CHS, the information technology project includes EPIC, a software development company that boasts management of over 190 million patient records. The three partners will work to ensure a smooth transition to a comprehensive, seamless computer system upgrade for the SeHealth system. This is the first agreement of its kind for all three agencies involved.

“We’re honored that Southeastern Health selected CHS and our IT resources to assist them in upgrading and enhancing their electronic health records system,” said Craig Richardville, chief information officer and senior vice president of CHS. “Through the years, CHS IT staff has gained tremendous experience and expertise installing and optimizing medical records systems that deliver value to patients and physicians.”

Southeastern Health, a non-profit organization, is a comprehensive health care system which offers a wide array of health care services through its affiliated divisions. The organization is accredited by The Joint Commission and includes Southeastern Regional Medical Center, a Magnet facility. The medical center is licensed for 452 beds and offers a combination of acute care, intensive care and psychiatric services to more than 15,000 inpatients and 63,000 emergency patients annually.
