“Dr. Smithason’s training at the world-renown Cleveland Clinic will enable him to provide surgery for those epilepsy patients in need of intervention that, until now, we were unable to care for,” added Dr. Matheus. “He is also well trained in brain tumor surgeries, brain bleeds or strokes, surgery for hydrocephalus as well as minimally-invasive spine surgery.”

“My philosophy of care is that I would take care of everybody like they are my family,” said Dr. Smithason. “I am happy to take care of the people of Lumberton and the surrounding area.”

He and his wife, Dr. Chompunut Asava-aree, a vascular medicine physician, have one child.
