Spread the love

By Cara Beth Lewis

Bladen County Public Library works to serve all ages in the Mother County. For seniors, the library currently offers a Popcorn and a Movie Day once a month and plans to begin Bingo Night in the near future.

The next Popcorn and a Movie event will be on February 2nd at 2 pm. The movie will be shown at the Elizabethtown Branch of Bladen County Public Library, which is a Public Performance Site Licensed Location.

After allowing Facebook followers to help choose the movie by voting, “Maid in Manhattan” will be shown at the upcoming event.

The library staff wishes to offer a true movie theater experience, so the movie is projected onto a huge white wall for optimum viewing. The popcorn machine will not only supply fresh, hot, buttery popcorn, but it will also fill the room with a delicious aroma, consistent with the movie-theater-experience.

Bladen County Library Director Sheila Nance says, “Our staff really wanted to offer something special for our senior patrons. This cold, dark time of the year with the post-Christmas ‘blahs’ can be lonely for many. We thought this would be an ideal way to bring people together for some fun, healthy, entertainment.”

The event is free of charge, and everyone ages 60 and above are welcome to join the fun.

The library is always open to recommendations and ideas to ensure that something is offered for everyone. Feel free to send activity, event, and class ideas to the library director via email at sheilanance@bladenco.org.
