1. Like cars? Like peanuts? Enjoy both at once Saturday at the 23rd annual Dublin Peanut Festival. Registration for the festival’s car show begins at 8 a.m. Judging begins at 1 p.m. Trophies for best of show, best mini, best GM, best Ford, best Mopar, best other and principal’s choice will be awarded at 4 p.m. Entry fee is $25. 2. State officials will host a public hearing Thursday in St. Pauls to gather comments on an environmental permit Sanderson Farms will need to operate a chicken processing plant the company is proposing to open in Robeson County. The hearing will be at 7 p.m. in the R.E. Hooks Center on 3rd Street. Registration to speak starts at 6:30 p.m.

3. It was 16 years ago today that Hurricane Floyd made landfall as a category 2 storm near Bald Head Island, according to the National Weather Service. It brought rain, rain and more rain. Southport received 24 inches of rain Sept. 15-16, 1999.
