Three Things to KnowGood morning! 3 things to know for Thursday, September 3

1. College football kicks off tonight. The big game around these parts is North Carolina vs. South Carolina. ESPN has the broadcast starting at 6 p.m. The governor’s from each state have wagered a shipment of barbecue. Elsewhere, Duke plays at Tulane at 9:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network and Wake Forest hosts Elon on ESPN3, which is available online depending on your cable or satellite provider.

2. Just in time for Christmas — actually almost three months before — the U.S. Postal Service will issue a set of stamps Oct. 1 depicting 10 scenes from the holiday TV special “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” which first aired Dec. 9, 1965 on CBS. Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown. Well deserved.

3. Falling gas prices and an improving economy are contributing to an increase in Labor Day holiday travel for the third straight year for North Carolinians, according to AAA Carolinas. An expected 888,000 Tar Heel residents are expected to drive 50 miles or more from home. Are you one?

And now you know.
