The National Weather Service says there is the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms Sunday in Bladen County and surrounding areas.

Although no watches nor warnings had been issued as of 7:30 p.m. Saturday, forecasters say the severe potential will come from damaging wind gusts, large hail and the possibility of a tornado. Heavy rainfall in a short period of time may lead to temporary localized flooding.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely before 1 p.m. Sunday, according to the forecast, then possibly a thunderstorm Sunday afternoon with wind gusts up to 22 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue through Monday. Sunday’s high temperature is forecast to be 72 degrees with a low of 54.

The rain is expected to be out of Bladen County by Monday night with sunshine forecast for Tuesday with high temperatures in the low 60s Monday and Tuesday.
