Shaun Sewell put on quite a show while tempers flared, resulting in four drivers being disqualified, Saturday night at Dublin Motor Speedway.

Sewell, whose nickname is “Showtime,”  cruised to victory in the 25-lap Late Model feature race, leading from the start and beating runner-up Matthew Bissette by more than two seconds.

“The race went good. The track was good,” Sewell said. “There was a hole getting into turn one, just had to go below it. Other than that, everything went pretty smooth for me. Should have put a harder right rear tire on (the car), but real pleased with it.”

The race was stopped briefly on the second lap when the cars of Chuck Smith and Colby Ashe collided along the front stretch. Ashe’s car spun and was facing the opposite way when it came to stop. Smith’s car had severe damage on the back as it sat near the flagstand. Both cars were towed to the pits. Neither driver was injured.

Contact between cars in the Super Street and U-Car divisions didn’t result in driver injuries, but did lead to disqualifications after the races.

SUPER STREET

Benji Thompson raced to his 12th Super Street division win of the season at Dublin, finishing about six seconds ahead of runner-up Donovan Jackson.

A wreck between front row starter Jerry Johnson and Dustin Perritt in turn three on the first lap caused severe damage to Johnson’s car. Johnson was able to finish the race, although well off the pace, while Perritt finished fourth. However, on the “cool down” lap after the checkered flag, Johnson turned his car into Perritt’s on the backstretch. Bladen County Sheriff’s Office deputies on scene went to Johnson’s pit, but nothing happened. Johnson and Perritt were disqualified.

U-CAR

Brandon Jacobs picked up the checkered flag in the U-Car race, holding off Jeremy Sessoms after the two collided coming out of the fourth turn on the final lap.

Sessoms was pulling closer to Jacobs in the closing laps, then went low coming out of the final turn, hitting Jacobs’ rear qurterpanel and turning his car almost 90 degrees as Sessoms’ car went into Jacobs’ side. However, Jacobs was able to recover, got his car headed in the proper direction, and won the race to the finish line by 1/10th of a second.

As Jacobs was having pictures made in Victory Lane, arguments broke out between members of each team. Both drivers were disqualified and the win went to David Kelly.
