Whiteville, NC –The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) Vice-Narcotics Unit arrested one individual on May 07, 2019, at the conclusion of an investigation. This investigation was initiated as the result of social media posts.

Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Vice-Narcotics Unit received information that a student was advertising the sale of prescription medication on a social media site. CCSO Vice-Narcotics Investigators contacted the defendant on social media and arranged to purchase pills from the defendant. A CCSO Vice-Narcotics Investigator met the defendant and purchased Oxycodone Hydrochloride and “Valium”. The “Valium” pills were counterfeit.

After completing the purchase, the CCSO Vice-Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at the defendant’s residence on Mill Pond Road in Whiteville. During the search, CCSO Vice-Narcotics Investigators located an amount of marijuana, prescription pills, and CCSO’s cash from the narcotics purchase. The defendant, Hunter Todd Campbell, 17, was arrested and charged with one felony count of Sell and/or Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance and one felony count of Sell and/or Deliver Counterfeit Controlled Substance. He was given a $10,000.00 secured bond.

Columbus County Sheriff’s Office post stated, “Social media was created to connect with family and friends, not to promote illegal drug activity. I will not tolerate the sale of narcotics targeting our children. If you are aware of illegal drug activity being promoted on social media, please contact us. I urge every parent to monitor their child’s social media posts and the social media posts of your child’s friends. Active parenting is essential to safeguarding our children.”
