Bladen County Sheriff's DepartmentThe Bladen County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that took place near Singletary Mill Pond Road early on Thursday.

Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker said on Friday morning that his office is investigating a report of an accidental “self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

The Bladen 911 center received a call at 3:02 a.m. Thursday morning (February 11),” said McVicker.

The call originated from 18 Ruby Kidds Road, off Singletary Mill Pond Road, near Bladenboro. McVicker said the caller who identified himself as Kelly Dwayne Hamilton, 44, reported that his friend, Crystal Lynn McLamb, 44, of Tar Heel, had accidentally shot herself.

“Mr. Hamilton said the two had been watching a movie and McLamb went to move a weapon that was loaded and laying on a coffee table. He said when she did the gun went off striking her fatally,” said McVicker.

McLamb was found by officers lying on a couch in the living room and was pronounced dead at the scene. Bladen County Coroner Hubert Kinlaw has requested an autopsy which will be conducted on Friday morning at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh, said McVicker.

“Our investigation is ongoing at this time,” said McVicker. “We are waiting for autopsy results and for other forensic evidence to be analyzed. We are in close communication with the District Attorney’s office. I expect the investigation to be completed in the next few days.”
