Update- Case Continued for Murder Suspect, David Earl Wilkins

Update- On August 1, 2022, the case against murder suspect David Earl Wilkins was continued to October 3, 2022. According to court authorities, Wilkins remains in the dentition center without bond.

A man wanted in the death of a Tar Heel man was captured Friday night and is currently being held in Bladen County jail, according to a news release from the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office.

David Earl Wilkins (pictured) was taken into custody about 9 p.m. Friday by officers from the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office following a foot pursuit, the Sheriff’s Office said. The location of the capture was not provided. Bladen County and Cumberland County officers assisted in the search.

Wilkins was being sought on a charge of first degree murder in relation to the death of Donald Jackson, the Sheriff’s Office says.

Authorities were summoned to a home in the 2000 block of Purdie Church Road in Tar Heel for a welfare check following a phone call around 9:34 p.m. to 911, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival at the home, deputies found 63-year-old Donald Jackson deceased, the news release said.
