The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office has a new member in K-9 officer Jaxx. He joined the staff in January of this year and his handler is Corporal Clark.

Jaxx, a passive alert canine, is an 18-month-old Belgian Malnois and is nationally certified with the International Police Work Dog Association, according to Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker.  He also is trained in narcotics detection, criminal apprehension, evidence searching, and human trailing.  The training was in partnership with Cumberland County, according to Sheriff McVicker.

Jaxx has already been busy in his first weeks on the job assisting with a barricaded subject and making several narcotics-related finds, said Sheriff McVicker.

Jaxx was purchased with proceeds from local businesses and citizens.

“So far he has been a great asset….With him being there, he prevented any harm from coming to the officers and the suspects,” said Sheriff McVicker.

He added. “We are appreciative of the citizens in the county who made this happen and that help us protect the mother county.”
