A staff report
For over 50 years, Samaritan’s Purse has been spreading the love of Christ worldwide through its Operation Christmas Child (OCC) program. By filling shoeboxes with toys, books, and essential items, this global initiative brings hope to children in need and teaches them about the love of Jesus. Locally, the Carolina Bay Area Team, including Bladen and Columbus counties, has been instrumental in supporting this mission, as highlighted in the Bladen County Beautiful Winter Holiday Shopper 2024.
This year like in years past, Bladen County Churches and residents have supported this mission with passion and dedication. Dublin First Baptist Church played reported packing over 1,600 shoeboxes. These small boxes represent much more than just gifts—they are often the first tangible expression of love some children have ever received. Each shoebox is an invitation to participate in a 12-week discipleship program that introduces children to Jesus and helps them build a relationship with Him.
Through the dedication of 195 partnering churches, nearly 9,000 shoeboxes were collected in the region, demonstrating the power of community to impact countless lives. For many children, these gifts are a symbol of hope and a reminder that they are loved.
This Giving Tuesday, you can be part of this mission. Consider packing a shoebox, contributing funds to support OCC’s efforts, or volunteering with your local church or organization to spread the love of Christ to those in need. Together, we can ensure that more children around the world receive the priceless gift of joy and hope this holiday season.
