On Tuesday, May 4 at approximately 10:45 am, the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots fired call in the White Oak area near Cain’s Grill.  Deputies responded to the scene and determined that a domestic problem had led to an argument and shots being fire at a vehicle driven by Robbie Long Landreth, 33, and passenger, Jonathan Lee Melvin, 23, both of White Oak.

Jason Caulkins, 39, of Hope Mills

The suspect was identified as Jason Caulkins, 39, of Hope Mills who was operating a gray Ford Escape and fled back toward Cumberland County.  The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office was notified and Cumberland County was able to locate and stop the suspect on Highway 53 and I-95 Cumberland County.

Caulkins was turned over to Bladen County Deputies and transported to the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office where he was charged with (2) counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon With Intent to Kill and placed in the Bladen County Detention Center under a $200,000.00 bond.

Several witnesses at Cain’s Grill observed part of the assault as Caulkins chased Landreth and Melvin behind the grill in his vehicle.  Shell casings were recovered at the scene.  The investigation is continuing.
