A search for a missing man at Singletary Lake State Park in Bladen County has now become a recovery operation. A Fayetteville man, Jesse Sgro, 22, was reported missing to park officials on Saturday morning and a search is now entering the fifth day.

Katie Hall, a spokeswoman with the NC State Parks, said on Tuesday evening, “Due to the length of time since Mr. Sgro went missing, the weather and lack of any signs that Mr. Sgro left the lake, the search effort is now a recovery effort.”

On Wednesday, searchers are expected to use boats, side scan sonar, and two dive teams to continue searching the lake and along the shoreline, said Hall.

Sgro was last seen paddling in a canoe on the lake on Friday evening. When he was initially noticed to missing on Friday evening, the church group he was camping with attempted to search for him at 3 a.m. but were unable to locate him. On Saturday, when Sgro still had not returned to the camp, some members of the group went to search for him along the lake and reported him as missing to park staff at 10 a.m., according to Hall.
