The NC Office of the Courts has reportedly scheduled a hearing to consider the release of Joseph Sledge. 70 year old Sledge has spent over half his life in prison for the killing of Josephine Davis and her daughter Aileen Davis.  Sledge escaped from the NC Department of Corrections in 1976 near the time of their death.
A three judge panel will decide if he will be released or remain in prison. An inmate who testified against Sledge at his trial reversed his testimony and said he was paid reward money for his testimony.
Sledge’s attorney, Chris Mumma, has been quoted as saying that she and DA Jon David consent that Sledge is innocent.
The hearing is reportedly set for Friday in Columbus County. the site of his original trial.
