What started as a part-time venture became a full-time small business for Kevin Stewart. Taking a leap of faith, he left his job of eight years to devote all of his working hours to Stewart’s Mobile Service nearly 20 years ago.

Stewart’s Mobile Services is a family business, offering medium and heavy diesel truck repair as well as heavy trailer repair. Other services include on-site fleet maintenance, spot truck/yard jockey repair and rentals, as well as light engine repairs, truck and trailer alignment, and cleaning of diesel engines equipped with modern emissions systems.

His wife, Joanna, who is co-owner and office manager, shared with BladenOnline, “With the arrival of our second son in 2006, I quit my full-time job to help Kevin with the books. We performed ‘Service on the spot,’ which was our slogan, until 2006 when we began to rent our first shop. We now have a three bay shop, four service vehicles, and eight employees.”

When it all started nearly two decades ago, there really was not a “goal” set to be achieved. However, Kevin saw a demand for this line of work so he began offering these services as a part-time side-gig to make some extra money. The owners shared, “Our future goal is to continue to grow our business in hopes that our boys, who are now sixteen and seventeen years old, will keep it going!”

All small businesses face challenges. Kevin and Joanna stated, “Our biggest challenge has been starting this business from scratch with no financial backing nor business knowledge. We have learned a lot over the years by trial and error. However, at this moment our biggest challenge is finding qualified technicians.”

When asked how Stewart’s Mobile Services contributes to the community, the owners explained, “We are proud to have given to our community in a number of ways that include participating in a ‘Touch A Truck’ event, in which we took a spot truck for community viewing, working on a power company truck after-hours during widespread power outages immediately following hurricane Florence, donating to local fundraisers, and helping to sponsor a number of schools locally.”

“We are proud to have served Bladen and surrounding counties for twenty years by providing quality, professional, and affordable tractor trailer and spot truck repair. We are also grateful to all of our customers over the years that have contributed to our success in even the smallest of ways, and we look forward to continuing to provide the same or even better service to all that need us!” – Kevin and Joanna Stewart, owners of Stewart’s Mobile Services.
