BLADENBORO – Around 25 players participated in both the men’s and women’s divisions of the first ‘Smash the Beast’ Tennis Tournament that was held Friday night and Saturday at the West Bladen tennis courts. The tournament was another Boost the Boro event.

“Overall I thought is was a great success,” said Event Coordinator Jeff Atkinson. “I think everyone had a great time, and we are looking forward to next year as all (players) said they would be returning. I really see this event growing next year.”

‘Smash the Beast’ tournament winners

Kendall Smith won the men’s singles championship defeating Timothy Skipper in the finals. Jim Brisson was the consolation winner.

Nicole Allen claimed the title in women’s singles defeating Carmin Russ in the championship match. Kimberly Blackmon took the consolation prize.

Jeff Atkinson and Lance Eslyn won the men’s doubles championship defeating Jared Allen and Dakota Fields in the finals. Billy Bryant and Joe Bryant were the consolation winners.

Alanna Nance and Josie Hickman were the women’s doubles champions defeating Beverly Vause and Beth Vause in the championship match. Alicia Avellanda and Madison Staton were the consolation winners.

Kelly Durden and Jeff Atkinson won the mixed doubles championship defeating Helen Boeshore and Chris Boeshore in the finals.
