Elizabethtown–Smithfield Foods Inc. is the presenting sponsor for the Bladen We Care Gala, to be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Venue in White Lake, N.C. Bladen We Care is celebrating its 29th year of helping people in Bladen County through grants they make to Bladen County residents in need of health care assistants. The Gala is one of two main fundraisers for Bladen We Care. Last year, Bladen We Care awarded $50,000 in grants to help assist with medication and $15,000 in college scholarships.
Bladen We Care was founded in March 1989 by Mac Campbell, Jr., President of the foundation and former CEO, shareholder and Advisory Board member for Campbell Oil Company. Over the years the volunteer organization has raised over $2M to assist Bladen County residents and offer grants to organizations like Bladen Crisis Center, Bladen Baptist Church, Carolina Cross Roads, Paul Brown Academy, Bladen Community College (nursing scholarship), and UNC Pembroke (nursing scholarship). Support for the foundation comes from the community, local businesses, the Bladen We Care Gala and golf tournament, and church contributions.
