Smithfield Foods Inc. will be the presenting sponsor for the 30th annual Bladen We Care Gala, to be held on Friday, April 5, 2019 at Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery in Elizabethtown. The band for this year’s gala will be the Legacy Motown Revue.

Mac Campbell Jr. said of Smithfield Foods, “They have done a tremendous job supporting us in what we do.”

Campbell said in past years and this year, Bladen We Care has been able to reach out in the community and help Bladen County residents who have been impacted by Hurricane Florence.

“They were really devastated,” said Campbell of some of the individuals who received assistance.

In addition to Smithfield’s donation, The Classic Cruisers Car Club also presented a check to Bladen We Care. The car club raises funds at their annual Made in Shade Car and Truck Show and they use the funds to support various organizations throughout Bladen County.

Wayne Dove, with the Classic Cruisers Car Club, presented a check to Bladen We Care’s Mac Campbell Jr. and Charles DeVane.

The Gala is one of two main fundraisers that help to support Bladen We Care. The Annual Byron Gooden Bladen We Care Golf Tournament will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Vineyard Golf At White Lake. The golf tournament will be a 4-man Captain’s Choice event with two tournaments, a morning tourney and an afternoon tourney.

Campbell said Bladen We Care is celebrating its 30th year of supporting Bladen County residents who have unmet medical needs and need assistance. The group of volunteers does this through offering grants to those who qualify.

Over the years, Bladen We Care has raised more than $2 million to assist Bladen County residents and offer grants to organizations like Bladen Crisis Center, Southeastern Carolina Cross Roads, the Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy, Bladen Community College (nursing scholarship), and UNC Pembroke (nursing scholarship).

The Bladen We Care Board consists of Norgie Hester, Dr. Dave Allen, David Cross, Robert G. Hester, Billy Fisher, Marvin Tatum, Wesley Campbell, Hayes Petteway, Catherine DeVane, Charles Devane, Ann Warner, Alan Thompson and Mac Campbell Jr.
