ELIZABETHTOWN – Junior Laura Davisson pitched a 3-hit shutout and struck out 9 batters Tuesday to lead East Bladen to a 10-0 Southeastern Athletic Conference softball victory over Red Springs.

The Lady Eagles jumped in front with a 3-run 1st inning. Freshman Martha Simmons reached base on an error, junior Karli Priest ripped a single to left-center field, and Davisson walked. Simmons scored on junior Emma Turbeville’s fielder’s choice, and Priest dashed home on a passed ball. Senior Mariah Smith’s fielder’s choice plated Davisson.

Junior Maegan Burney hammered a triple to left-center field to begin the East 2nd inning then scooted home on freshman Mollie Tolar’s fielder’s choice. Sophomore Dyiamon Robinson walked, stole 2nd base then sprinted to 3rd base on an error. Priest walloped a triple to left that scored Robinson, and Davisson knocked in Priest with a single to left field that stretched the Lady Eagle lead to 6-0.

Smith led off the East Bladen 3rd with a single to left, and junior AnnaGrey Heustess and Burney drew walks to load the bases. Smith was forced out at the plate, but Robinson’s fielder’s choice brought home freshman Madison Sullivan, the courtesy runner for Heustess, to push the lead to 7-0.

Davisson was hit by a pitch with 1 out in the Lady Eagle 4th inning. Turbeville legged out an infield hit, and an error on the play scored Davisson. Smith walked, and Heustess blasted a triple to right-center field that drove in Turbeville and Smith and pushed the lead to 10-0.

Priest batted 2-for-3 with a triple, 2 runs scored and a run batted in to lead the East Bladen hitters. Heustess slammed a 2-run triple and scored a run. Burney tripled and scored a run. Davisson, Turbeville, and Smith collected 1 hit each. Davisson scored 2 runs, and Simmons, Turbeville, Smith and Robinson scored 1 run each. Davisson, Turbeville, Smith and Tolar drove in runs.

Sydney Bell, Logan Buie and pitcher Amari McLean had 1 hit each for Red Springs.

Coach Chris Davisson’s Lady Eagles improved to 3-2 in SAC-7 play and 5-6 overall. East Bladen will travel to Red Springs Friday night.
