Junior Lacey Suggs walloped two home runs to lead East Bladen to a 14-3 Four County Conference victory over visiting Union Thursday night.

Suggs blasted a solo home run over the left-field fence in the third inning, then ended the game on the mercy rule in the fifth inning by drilling a liner past the right-fielder for a 2-run inside-the-park home run. Freshman Kaley Smith who led off the fifth with a single to left-field raced home ahead of Suggs on the home run.

Smith batted 2-3, and senior Abbey Norris, senior Anna Brewer and junior Miller Heustess slammed doubles in the game. Senior Lexi Dawson, and junior Abby Ward added one single each to the 9-hit Lady Eagle attack.

Dawson, Brewer, Heustess and Emily Scott drove in one run each. Suggs stole 4 bases, and Ward and Brewer stole 2 bases each.

Heustess pitched all 5 innings for the Lady Eagles, striking out 2, walking none and allowing 4 hits.

East Bladen scored 5 runs in the first inning without the benefit of a hit. Suggs, Dawson, Norris, Brewer and Scott all drew walks and all 5 scored runs. Smith also drew a walk, and Suggs walked a second time in the inning.

Union used a walk, two fielder’s choices and an error to trim the margin to 5-1.

Norris laced a double down the left-field line in the second inning and sprinted home when Heustess ripped a double into the left-field corner to push the lead to 6-1.

After Suggs’ third inning homer, Ward beat out an infield hit, stole second base and darted home on a throwing error. Norris reached base on a fielder’s choice and dashed home when Brewer pounded a double over the left-fielder’s head for a 9-1 East lead.

Suggs walked in the fourth inning, stole second and scored on a throwing error as Ward reached base. Ward advanced on a wild pitch and scored when Dawson swatted a single to right-center-field. Walks to Norris, Heustess and Scott forced home Dawson with the third run of the inning that widened the gap to 12-1.

Union sandwiched infield hits by Michala Robinson and Alison Alphin around Lauren Preddy’s triple to narrow the lead to 12-3 in the top of the fifth.

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles improved to 6-1 in the Four County and 10-2 overall.
