ST PAULS – Junior Laura Davisson pitched a 3-hitter, and the East Bladen hitters pounded out 17 hits as the Lady Eagles rolled to a 19-2 Southeastern Athletic Conference softball victory over St. Pauls Monday night.

Davisson struck out 6 batters, walked 2 and allowed a pair of unearned runs in the 5th inning. Two of St. Pauls’ 3 hits were infield hits.

Junior Emma Turbeville smacked a single to right field to begin the Lady Eagle 2nd inning. Junior AnnaGrey Heustess walked, and junior Maegan Burney legged out an infield hit. Freshmen Mollie Tolar and Martha Simmons laced singles to center field as Turbeville, Heustess and Burney all scored.

Five Lady Bulldog errors coupled with singles by Heustess, Burney, junior Karli Priest and senior Mariah Smith paved the way for 8 East Bladen runs in the 3rd inning. Davisson drilled a triple to right as the Lady Eagle lead grew to 11-0.

Tolar started the East Bladen 4th inning with a single, and freshman Gabriella Bray walked. Freshman Martha Simmons slapped a single to right that scored Tolar, and Priest beat out an infield hit as Bray scored. Davisson was hit by a pitch, and Turbeville forced Priest at 3rd as Simmons scored.

Smith walked before Burney cleaned the bases with a triple to center field that scored Davisson, Turbeville and Smith and pushed the lead to 17-0.

Priest reached base on a fielder’s choice, Davisson legged out an infield hit and Turbeville knocked in Priest with a single to left-center in the 5th inning. Smith and Heustess spanked singles to right that scored Davisson and Turbeville.

Burney batted 3-for-5 with the triple, 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored to lead the Lady Eagle hitters. Turbeville finished 2-for-4 at the plate, scored 4 runs and had 2 RBIs. Davisson was 2-for-4 with a triple, 3 runs scored and an RBI. Priest batted 2-for-5 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Bray scored twice and drove in a run.

Heustess batted 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Her courtesy runner, Mary Frances Sutton, scored 2 runs. Simmons finished 2-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Tolar was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. Smith batted 2-for-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.

Coach Chris Davisson’s Lady Eagles improved to 5-2 in SAC-7 play and 7-6 overall. East Bladen will host a return match with St. Pauls Thursday at 6 p.m.
