ELIZABETHTOWN – Junior Karli Priest’s run-scoring single keyed a 2-run, 3rd inning rally that vaulted East Bladen to an important 2-1 softball victory over Southeastern Athletic Conference leader Midway Wednesday night.

It was the initial SAC-7 loss for the Lady Raiders, now 8-1 in league play and 11-6 overall. The Lady Eagles climbed to within a game of 1st place with a 7-2 SAC-7 record and 9-6 overall mark. The two teams play again Friday at 6:30 at Spivey’s Corner with the league lead on the line.

Lady Eagle junior Laura Davisson pitched a 3-hitter, struck out 7 and gave up only an unearned run to outduel Midway freshman Jordyn Christopher, who allowed only 3 hits and 2 runs – 1 earned – while striking out 10.

Senior Rylie Williams cracked a 2-out single in the Midway 1st inning, and after a passed 3rd strike, freshman Kiley Ives drove in Williams with a single to left-center field.

Junior Maegan Burney beat out an infield hit to start the East Bladen 3rd inning. After freshman Mollie Tolar walked, freshman Gabriella Bray’s fielder’s choice forced Burney at 3rd base. One out later Priest knocked in Tolar with a single to center field, and when the ball skipped past the Midway center fielder, Bray sprinted home with the go-ahead run.

Priest finished with the single and the run batted in. Tolar and Bray scored runs, and Burney and senior Mariah Smith connected for 1 hit each for the winners.

Freshman Sarah Autry doubled with 1 out in the 7th inning for Midway, but Davisson retired the next 2 batters on a pop-up and a ground-out to end the game.
