SHALLOTTE – Senior Laura Davisson pitched a 3-hitter and struck out 13 batters to lead East Bladen to a 3-1 non-conference softball victory over West Brunswick Friday night.

Davisson issued her only 2 walks – to senior Kasey Pigott and sophomore Kaylee Williams – to begin the 6th inning. Senior Ava Caison smacked a single to right field that drove in Pigott with the lone Lady Trojan run. Davisson regrouped and struck out the next 3 batters to end the inning, then struck out the side in the 7th inning to end the game.

Freshman Jenna Brice laced a single to left-center field to begin the Lady Eagle 4th inning. Freshman Cabria Baldwin and sophomore Gabriella Bray drew walks, and senior Karli Priest reached base on an error that scored Brice for a 1-0 lead.

Freshman Niyah Wooten lined a 1-out single to center field in the East 5th inning. An error on the play allowed Wooten to take 2nd base. She dashed to 3rd base on a wild pitch then scored on sophomore Mollie Tolar’s infield out.

Baldwin drew a lead-off walk in the 6th inning, then stole 2nd base. Priest knocked in Baldwin with a single to left-center field to bump the East Bladen lead to 3-0.

Priest batted 2-for-3 with 2 walks and 2 runs batted in. Brice also finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. Bray slammed a double and had 1 RBI. Tolar singled and drove in a run. Wooten singled and scored a run, and Baldwin walked twice and scored a run.

Caison had the RBI single, and Sanders and junior McCayla Kelly had the other Lady Trojan hits. Caison allowed 3 runs – 2 earned – on 6 hits and 6 walks while striking out one in her 7 innings in the circle.

Coach Chris Davisson’s Lady Eagles improved to 2-3 and will open Southeastern Athletic Conference play Tuesday night at Midway.
