LELAND – East Bladen’s Lady Eagles pounded out 12 hits and built an 8-0 lead before finishing with an 8-3 non-conference softball victory over North Brunswick Thursday night.

Senior Karli Priest lined a single to left, stole 2nd base and raced home when freshman Cabria Baldwin scorched a single to center. An error on the play allowed Baldwin to sprint to 3rd base. Senior Laura Davisson rapped a single to center that scored Baldwin.

After a force-out and a caught stealing, freshman Jenna Brice roped a single to right field. Sophomore Martha Simmons laced a single to center field, and sophomore Gabriela Bray beat out an infield hit. Sophomore Mollie Tolar and senior AnnaGrey Heustess drew walks to force home Brice and Simmons and stretch the East lead to 4-0.

Freshman Niyah Wooten smoked a single to right, darted all the way to 3rd base on a fielder’s choice and scored on Simmons’ sacrifice fly. Bray reached on an error, and Tolar and Heustess drew walks, before Bray scored as Priest reached base on an error to grow the lead to 7-0.

Brice belted a 2-out single in the Lady Eagle 4th inning, and Simmons hammered a double. Brice dashed home on a wild pitch to pad the margin to 8-0.

Junior Blair Sampson reached on an error in the Lady Scorpion 4th inning, scooted to 3rd base on junior Gracie Christianson’s double and scored on a wild pitch. Christianson came home on junior Hailey Price’s sacrifice fly. Junior Jordan Dubree walked and sprinted home on junior Alana Hill’s double.

Davisson started in the circle for East and pitched 3.2 innings allowing 3 runs – 0 earned – on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. Priest worked 3.1 innings of scoreless 2-hit relief.

Brice batted 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored to lead the Lady Eagles. Simmons finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Davisson was also 2-for-3 with an RBI. Priest batted 2-for-5 with a run scored. Baldwin, Bray and Wooten connected for 1 hit each. Baldwin, Wooten, Bray and Tolar scored 1 run each. Heustess and Tolar had 1 RBI each.

Christianson batted 2-for-3 with 2 doubles to lead the North hitters. Senior pitcher Mary Williamson was also 2-for-3 with a double.

Coach Chris Davisson’s Lady Eagles improved to 5-8 with the victory and will play Monday at 4 p.m. in the Spring Break Tournament at West Brunswick High School against Cox Mill from Concord.
