East Bladen High SchoolELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen’s Lady Eagles rallied with a 6-run sixth-inning but came up short by a 13-8 score to Heide Trask in Four County Conference softball action.

The Lady Titans rode the pitching of junior Brittany Foy to a 9-0 lead before the Lady Eagles broke through with a run in the fourth inning. Freshman Johanna Parker drilled a double to leftfield, advanced on a wild pitch and scored when Majesti Corbett smacked a single to centerfield.

Heide Trask tacked on 2 runs in the top of the fifth, but East Bladen avoided the mercy rule with a run in the home fifth. Freshman Abby Cross was hit by a pitch, and after a pair of fielder’s choices, pitcher Kaley Smith slammed a double to left-centerfield that scored senior Emily Scott.

Trask padded the lead to 12-2 before the Lady Eagles exploded for 6 runs in the home sixth. Sophmore Anna Kate White raked a single to left and scored on a throwing error on Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson’s fielder’s choice.

Moore-Peterson raced home on Cross’ fielder’s choice, and junior Faith Johnson belted a single. Scott reached base on an error. Kaley Smith knocked in Johnson with a single, and freshman Izzy Smith drove in Scott with a single. A throwing error on Parker’s grounder brought home Kaley Smith and Izzy Smith.

Trask tacked on a run in the top of the seventh.

“I am glad we scored some runs and the kids got excited,” said East Bladen Coach Patty Evers. “But we made too many errors. We have got to make the routine plays and get better.”

Kaley Smith batted 2-4 with a double, 2 runs batted in and a run scored to lead the Lady Eagle hitters. Johnson and Corbett also batted 2-4. Moore-Peterson and Parker hammered a double each. White, Scott and Izzy Smith added one hit each.

Corbett and Izzy Smith drove in runs. Scott scored 2 runs, and Moore-Peterson, White, Parker, Izzy Smith and Johnson scored one run each.

“We put the bat on the ball,” said Coach Evers. “We are hitting the ball better this year that we did last year.”

The Lady Eagles will travel to Wallace-Rose Hill Thursday night.
