ELIZABETHTOWN- Midway’s Lady Raiders slugged 4 home runs Friday night and defeated East Bladen 11-1 in Southeastern Athletic Conference softball action.
Senior Jaycie Byrd led off the game with a home run, and the Lady Raiders added another 1st inning run on 2 walks, a hit batter and a bloop single.
Senior Krista McLean led off the Midway 2nd inning with a line drive over the center field fence. Sophomore Kara Beth Benton swatted an RBI triple to right, and senior Lainey Hughes slammed a run-scoring double for a 5-0 lead.
McLean drilled her 2nd home run to right-center field to start the 3rd inning, Hughes smashed another RBI double, and Mallory Baggett launched a 3-run home run to left to push the lead to 11-0.
Sophomore Gabriella Bray lined a single to right field to start the Lady Eagle 5th inning. Bray was retired on sophomore Mollie Tolar’s fielder’s choice. Tolar stole 2nd base and went to 3rd when senior Karli Priest ripped a single to left. Tolar stole home for the East run on the back end of a double-steal with Priest.
Senior Laura Davisson batted 2-for-2 with a double to lead the Lady Eagle hitters. Priest, Bray and freshman Jenna Brice belted 1 hit each for East. Tolar scored a run.
Davisson started in the circle and pitched 1-plus innings allowing 5 runs on 5 hits, 3 walks and a hit batter while striking out one. Priest worked 2 innings of relief allowing 6 runs on 6 hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out one. Brice pitched the final 2 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits.
Sophomore Sarah Autry pitched a 5-hitter allowing 1 run while striking out four for Midway. McLean batted 2-for-3 with 2 solo home runs. Baggett was 2-for-3 with a home run and 4 RBIs. Hughes finished 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. Benton batted 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored and an RBI triple. Sophomore Kiley Ives was 2-for-3, and Byrd slugged a home run.
The Lady Eagles, now 0-2 in SAC-7 play, and 2-5 overall, will host Clinton Tuesday night.
