West Bladen High School LogoSPIVEY’S CORNER – Midway rode a 7-run, fifth-inning rally to an 8-0 Four County Conference softball victory that snapped West Bladen’s ten-game winning streak Saturday night.
The Lady Knights completed regular season play in second-place with an 11-3 league mark and a 14-8 overall record. West Bladen will still enter the NCHSAA Class 2A Play-offs as the Four County’s No. 1 seed and is expected to host a first-round play-off game.
Midway’s Sanajae Sankey cranked a 2-out triple and scored on an error to snap a scoreless tie in the third inning.
The Lady Raiders sent 11 batters to the plate in the fifth and capitalized on 6 hits, 2 errors and a walk to score 7 runs.
Leah Williams pitched a 4-hitter, walked 2 and struck out 2 to pick up the win for Midway. Junior Sophia Singletary allowed 8 hits, 2 walks and struck out two for West Bladen.
The Lady Knights threatened in both the first and third innings. Junior Logan Autry and freshman Carley Dawson cracked singles with one out in the first inning, but a fly-out and a strike-out ended the inning.
In the third inning, junior Kassidy Anderson drew a one-out walk, and Dawson belted a 2-out single, but a fly-out ended the rally.
Autry and Dawson both batted 2-3 to lead the West Bladen hitters.
Midway finished in fourth-place in the Four County with a 9-5 record and a 14-8 overall mark.
