TABOR CITY – Sophomore Carmen Buck and junior Brileigh Ward led a 10-hit attack that carried South Columbus to a 10-2 non-conference softball victory over East Bladen Friday night.

Buck batted 4-for-4 with a triple and 3 runs scored to lead the Lady Stallion hitters. Ward slugged a 3-run home run in the 4th inning and finished 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored. Senior Alexuz Barnes batted 2-4 with a run batted in, and junior Olivia Watts slammed a 2-run double.

The Lady Eagles jumped in front with a pair of 1st inning runs. Senior Karli Priest led off with a single, and senior Laura Davisson walked but was retired on freshman Jenna Brice’s force-out. Sophomore Martha Simmons delivered a 2-out single that scored Priest and Brice.

Buck’s single, a hit batter and a pair of Lady Eagle errors enabled South to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Ward’s 2-run double highlighted a 3-run Lady Stallion 3rd inning. Ward’s 3-run homer pushed the lead to 8-2 in the fourth.

Priest started in the circle for East and worked 3.1 innings allowing 9 hits and 1 walk while allowing 8 runs – 6 earned -and striking out four. Davisson pitched 2.2 innings of relief and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out one.

Priest also singled and scored a run. Simmons belted the 2-run single, and Davisson and Brice added 1 hit each with Brice scoring a run.

Watts struck out 8, walked 1 and hit a batter to pick up the win for South. She allowed 2 runs on 4 hits.

East Bladen will host West Brunswick Thursday.
