ELIZABETHTOWN – Sophomore Peyton Duncan pitched a 3-hit shutout and struck out 13 batters to lead South Columbus to a 2-0 Three Rivers Conference softball victory over East Bladen Tuesday night.

East Bladen freshman Laura Davisson struck out 11 batters in her first varsity start and limited the Lady Stallions to 2 runs on 8 hits in her 6.1 innings in the circle. Junior Kayleigh Raynor relieved and recorded the last 2 outs in the 7th, striking out one.

Junior Alanna Deal hammered a double to center field that drove in freshman Elizabeth Strickland who had singled with the first South run in the 3rd inning. Deal slugged a home run over the left field fence in the 5th for the other SC run.

East Bladen’s best scoring threat came in the 2nd inning. Davisson laced a single to center field, and junior Alyssa Futrell was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, but Deal made a diving stop at shortstop to rob junior Carlie West of a hit and end the threat.

Davisson batted 2-for-3 to lead the Lady Eagle hitters, and freshman Emma Turbeville added a single.

Deal finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, a home run and 2 runs batted in. Strickland was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Duncan slammed a double.

East Bladen, now 0-2, will travel to Midway Wednesday for a non-conference game.
