TABOR CITY – Junior Olivia Watts pitched a 7-hit shutout, and her South Columbus teammates scored 4 runs in the 3rd inning to defeat West Bladen 4-0 Friday night in non-conference softball action.

Watts struck 3 batters, scattered 7 hits and worked out of trouble in each of the 1st 4 innings.

Lady Knight junior Gracie Faircloth doubled with 1 out in the 1st inning but was stranded there. Freshman Kali Allen beat out an infield hit and advanced on sophomore Marlene Crabtree’s sacrifice bunt in the West 2nd inning but was left on base.

Senior Mackenzie Singletary and Faircloth smacked singles in the Lady Knight 3rd inning but were stranded. Crabtree reached on an error, and senior Madison Taylor lined a single to left in the 4th but both were left on base.

Junior J. K. Graham led off the Lady Stallion 3rd inning with a single to left and scampered home when sophomore Carmen Buck drilled a triple to center field. Buck scored on a passed ball. Junior Reah Lee walked and senior Bella Coleman knocked her in with a triple to left-center then scored on an error for a 4-0 lead.

Faircloth batted a perfect 3-for-3 with a double to lead the Lady Knight hitters. Allen finished 2-for-3 at the plate, and Taylor and Singletary added 1 hit each. Senior Rylee Chadwick pitched a 5-hitter, struck out 8 and walked 2. Three of the South runs were earned.

Coleman batted 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, a run scored and 1 RBI to lead the Lady Stallion hitters. Buck smashed the RBI triple and scored a run. Senior Alexuz Barnes doubled, and Graham singled and scored a run.

West Bladen, now 6-5, will entertain rival East Bladen Tuesday night.
