ELIZABETHTOWN – St. Pauls capitalized on nine East Bladen errors to score six unearned runs and defeat East Bladen 10-5 Monday night in Three Rivers Conference softball action.

The Lady Bulldogs turned two walks, two bloop singles and a throwing error into a pair of first-inning runs.

The Lady Eagles answered with a run in the home half of the first. Sophmore Johanna Parker walked, stole second base and raced home when freshman Alyssa Futrell lined a single to left.

With two out in the St. Pauls second inning, two hits and a trio of East Bladen errors plated 2 runs and pushed the Lady Bulldog lead to 4-1.

A hit, a walk and three more Lady Eagle errors in the fourth inning scored three more St. Pauls runs and upped the count to 7-1.

Juniors Olivia Hollingsworth and Anna Kate White drew walks to begin the East Bladen fourth inning, and sophmore Lorna Mendell walloped an apparent 3-run home run over the centerfield fence.

However, Mendell was touched by one of her celebrating teammates before she touched home plate and was called out by rule thus turning her 3-run homer into a 2-run triple.

Kaitlyn Locklear doubled home a run and later scored in the Lady Bulldog fifth to pad the lead to 9-3. An error, a fielder’s choice and a wild pitch added a sixth inning run and grew the margin to 10-3.

East Bladen rallied for 2 runs in the home seventh. Freshman Kayleigh Raynor smacked a single to centerfield and raced home when Parker laced a single to centerfield. Futrell slammed a single to rightfield that drove in Parker.

Futrell finished 3-4 at the plate with a double and 2 runs batted in. Mendell tripled home 2 runs. Parker cracked an rbi single, and Raynor and sophmore Abbie Cross collected one hit each. Parker scored 2 runs, and Raynor, Hollingsworth and White scored one run each.

Raynor pitched a complete game and struck out 11 batters, allowing only 4 earned runs on 8 hits and 4 walks.

Meagan Butler batted 3-4 to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Locklear was 2-4 with a double and 2 rbi’s, and Braxtin Kinlaw batted 2-4. Brianna Brewer pitched a 7-hitter and struck out six batters to pick up the win.
