Wallace-Rose Hill scored 3 unearned runs in the top of the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie, and the Lady Bulldogs held on to claim a 5-3 Four County Conference victory at West Saturday.

The game was suspended due to rain on Thursday with the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

An error and singles by sophmore Haley Rivenbark and senior Reagan Page loaded the bases for Wallace in the fifth. Senior Chelsea Horning beat the throw to the plate on Sara Darling’s fielder’s choice.

West Bladen pitcher Nicole Wyatt fielded a come-backer and forced Rivenbark at the plate, then struck out the next batter, but sophmore Brook Miller swatted a 2-run single to right-centerfield for a 5-2 Wallace lead.

The Lady Knights trimmed the margin to 5-3 with a run in the sixth inning. Wyatt looped a one-out single into left-centerfield, and sophmore Laikyn Pait walked.

Sophmore Alanna Ludlum clobbered a long drive over the centerfielder’s head, but the West runners had to hold to make sure the ball dropped. Allison Thompson, the courtesy runner for Wyatt scored, but Pait had to stop at second and Ludlum was held to a single.
Rivenbark worked out of the inning with a bunt and a strike-out.

Sophmore Sophia Singletary ripped a one-out single to centerfield in the seventh, but the next two batters were retired on pop-ups to end the game.

Wallace struck first on Thursday night with a pair of second inning runs. Darling reached on an error, and Rachel Whitfield and LeAnna  Hanchey cracked singles to produce the runs.

West Bladen tied the game in the bottom of the third as sophmores Kathryn Schultz and Logan Autry drew walks and both raced home when senior Morgan Sweeney hammered a 2-run double to tie the game.

Sweeney’s 2-run double led the Lady Knight hitters, and Ludlum launched the long rbi single and walked twice. Singletary and Wyatt added one hit each as the Lady Knights were held to four hits.

Wyatt went the distance in the circle for  West and allowed 8 hits and 5 runs – no earned runs, while striking out four.

Rivenbark pitched the 4-hitter to pick up the win for the Lady Bulldogs and batted 2-4. Miller finished 2-3 with 2 runs-batted-in.

The Lady Knights are now 6-4 in the league and 9-7 overall. West Bladen will travel to Pender Monday for a double-header that will begin at4:30.
