TEACHEY – Wallace-Rose Hill exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning and defeated West Bladen 9-2 Wednesday night in non-conference softball action.

Sophmore Kyla Reed beat out an infield hit to start the game. Senior Abby Dawson and sophmore Alara Cashwell drew walks, and Reed scooted home on a passed ball for a 1-0 West Bladen lead.

Lady Bulldog pitcher Haven Williams stranded the other two Lady Knight baserunners by striking out the side.

Angel Pearsall legged out a bunt single to start the Wallace first inning. Consecutive one-out singles by Williams, Ellen Casteen and Alleaah Graham scored Pearsall and Williams for a 2-1 Lady Bulldog lead.

Dawson and Cashwell drew walks, and pitcher Madison Collins reached base on a bunt single to load the bases in the West Bladen third inning. However two Lady Knight runners were thrown out at the plate as the Wallace-Rose Hill defense worked out of the inning.

The Lady Bulldogs exploded for 7 runs on 6 hits, 2 walks and an error in the fifth inning to take a 9-1 lead. Doubles by Graham and Summerlin Page and Williams’ 3-run homer highlighted the inning.

Reed reached base on an error in the West Bladen seventh, advanced on Dawson’s sacrifice bunt and raced home on Cashwell’s single to trim the margin to 9-2.

Reed, Dawson, Cashwell, Collins, and sophmore Jordan Benson connected for one hit each for the Lady Knights. Reed scored both runs, and Cashwell drove in a run.

Collins pitched the first 5 innings for West Bladen, and freshman Shelby Pharr pitched a scoreless sixth.

Pearsall batted 4-4 to lead Wallace-Rose Hill. Graham was 3-4 at the plate with a double, and Williams slugged the 3-run homer and finished 2-3 at the plate. Catcher Ella Smith was also 2-3.

West Bladen will host East Columbus Thursday at 6 p.m.
