CLINTON- Junior Rylee Chadwick pitched a 2-hitter and struck out 13 of the 18 batters that she faced as West Bladen rolled to a 10-0 mercy rule Southeastern Athletic Conference softball victory over Clinton Wednesday night.

Zae Avery legged out a bunt single to start the Clinton 3rd inning, and teammate Carrie Jordan beat out an infield hit 1 out later. However Chadwick struck out the next 2 batters to end the inning and start a streak of 8 consecutive strike-outs that completed her 5-inning victory.

Junior Kaitlynn Brisson led off the Lady Knights’ 3-run, 2nd inning with an infield hit. Sophomore Lena Trinidad walked, and junior Mackenzie Singletary smacked a single to center field that scored Brisson. Junior Kylie Durden reached base on an error, before Chadwick spanked a single to right-center field that plated Trinidad and freshman Holland Davis, the courtesy runner for Singletary.

Sophomore Gracie Faircloth laced a single to right to begin the West 3rd inning but was retired on Brisson’s fielder’s choice. Brisson advanced on an error and dashed home when Trinidad swatted a single to right field for a 4-0 Lady Knight lead.

Durden sliced a single to left-center to begin the West 4th inning, and Chadwick walked. Two outs later Brisson beat out an infield hit, and sophomore Emmee Ward’s bunt single plated Durden. Chadwick darted home on a passed ball to pad the margin to 6-0.

Durden legged out an infield hit to start the 5th inning and scooted home as Chadwick reached base on an error. Junior Madison Taylor’s bunt single scored Chadwick, and Faircloth walked, before Brisson yanked a single to left that scored Davis, the pinch-runner for Taylor. Faircloth scampered home on a passed ball as the lead grew to 10-0.

Brisson batted 3-for-4 with a run batted in and 2 runs scored to lead the West hitters. Durden finished 2-for-4 at the plate with 2 runs scored. Chadwick, Taylor, Faircloth, Ward, Trinidad and Singletary connected for 1 hit each.

Chadwick and Davis scored 2 runs each, and Faircloth and Trinidad scored 1 run each. Chadwick drove in 2 runs, and Taylor, Ward, Trinidad and Singletary had 1 RBI each.

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights improved to 8-3 in the SAC-7 and 9-11 overall. West Bladen will host Clinton Friday at 6 p.m.
