CLINTON – Freshman Rylee Chadwick pitched a no-hitter and struck out 10 batters in her varsity debut as West Bladen rolled to an 11-0 non-conference softball season-opening victory over Clinton Wednesday night.

Clinton pitcher Lily Wilson was hit by a pitch in the 2nd inning to account for the only Dark Horse baserunner against Chadwick in the game.

Senior Tatiana Hunt walked, and junior Abigail Madden smacked a single to start the game. Senior Alara Cashwell lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that plated Hunt. Sophomore Jessalyn Vendrick ripped a single to left that scored Madden. Chadwick laced a single to left-center, and freshman Mackenzie Singletary knocked in Cashwell and Vendrick with a single for a 4-0 West lead.

Hunt led off the 2nd inning with a single but was retired on Madden’s fielder’s choice. Cashwell hammered a double to center field that scored Madden. Vendrick was hit by a pitch, and Chadwick yanked a single to left that plated Cashwell. Sophomore Hannah Pait slapped a single to right that scored Vendrick for a 7-0 lead.

Hunt pounded a double to right to begin the third inning. Cashwell drove her in with a single to right-center, before Vendrick walloped a home run over the center field fence to boost the Lady Knight lead to 10-0.

The West Bladen 4th started with Hunt smoking a double down the right field line. Madden delivered a single to right that scored Hunt.

Chadwick batted a perfect 4-for-4 and drove in a run for the Lady Knights. Hunt slammed 2 doubles, batted a perfect 3-for-3 and scored 3 runs. Vendrick blasted the home run, was 2-for-3 at the plate, scored 3 times and had 3 runs batted in.

Cashwell finished 2-for-3 at the plate with 3 RBIs, a double and 2 runs scored. Madden batted 2-for-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Singletary turned in a 2-for-4 game with 2 RBIs. Pait and junior Alyssa Suggs added one hit each to the 17-hit West Bladen attack. Pait had an RBI and Guyton scored a run.

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights will travel to Fairmont Friday night for a Three Rivers Conference doubleheader.
