CLINTON – Sophmore Shelby Pharr pitched a 5-hit shutout and struck out five batters to lead West Bladen to an 11-0 non-conference victory over Clinton.
It was the first complete game and the first shutout of Pharr’s West Bladen career. The righthander walked only one and hit a batter. Two of Clinton’s five hits were infield hits.
Junior Tatiana Hunt drew a first-inning walk and scooted home when junior Kyla Reed blasted a triple to leftfield. Reed darted home on a wild pitch for a 2-0 Lady Knight lead.
Senior Lexie Pittman drew a fourth-inning walk, stole second and dashed home when Hunt smacked a single to centerfield for a 3-0 lead.
Pharr reached base on an error to begin a 6-run sixth inning rally. Hunt and Reed drew walks to load the bases. Junior Alara Cashwell knocked in Pharr and Hunt with a single to rightfield. Senior Conner Brisson was hit by a pitch, and sophmore Alyssa Suggs laid down a bunt that scored Reed.
Freshman Hannah Pait’s dropped down a bunt that plated Cashwell. Pharr delivered a single that plated Brisson and Suggs and stretched the lead to 9-0.
Hunt and Reed drew one-out walks in the seventh inning. Cashwell’s infield hit scored Hunt, and Brisson’s fielder’s choice plated Reed and padded the lead to 11-0.
Reed batted 2-3 with a triple, a run batted in and 3 runs scored. Cashwell finished 2-5 at the plate with 3 rbi’s and a run scored. Hunt, Brisson, Hannah Pait and Pharr added one hit each.
Pharr had 2 rbi’s, and Brisson, Hunt, Suggs, and Hannah Pait drove in one run each. Hunt walked 3 times and scored 3 runs. Brisson, Pharr, Suggs and Pittman scored one run each.
Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights improved to 2-1 and will travel to West Columbus Friday night.
