BLADENBORO -Seniors Kylie Durden and Rylee Chadwick combined to pitch a 1-hitter and strike out 6 batters Friday night to lead West Bladen to an 11-1 Southeastern Athletic Conference softball victory over Clinton.

Durden pitched 4 innings and allowed an unearned run on 1 hit. Chadwick struck out the side in a 1-2-3 5th inning. Zoie Avery reached base on an error in the Clinton 3rd inning, stole a base and scored on junior Daria Chavis’ bunt single.

Chadwick laced a single to right-center field in the 1st inning and advanced on a wild pitch and a passed ball. Senior Kaitlynn Brisson walked and stole a base before an error on freshman Kali Allen’s grounder scored Chadwick and Brisson for a 2-0 lead.

Senior Madison Taylor drew a lead-off walk in the 2nd inning, stole a base and advanced on a wild pitch before scoring on junior Gracie Faircloth’s sacrifice fly.

Brisson reached base on a passed 3rd strike in the 3rd inning, advanced on Allen’s bunt single and freshman Brenna Hester’s sacrifice bunt then scored on junior Megan Pait’s squeeze bunt for a 4-1 lead.

Senior Mackenzie Singletary belted a single to begin the 4th inning. Chadwick walked, and Durden pounded a drive to right field that scored sophomore Marlie Walters, the courtesy runner for Singletary. Brisson’s squeeze bunt plated Chadwick, Allen knocked in Durden with a double to right, and Pait smacked a single to center field that scored Allen for an 8-1 lead.

Singletary and Chadwick ripped singles to begin the West 5th inning, and Walters walked. Durden’s fly ball to center scored sophomore Aiyana Jones, the courtesy runner for Singletary. Allen’s bunt single plated Chadwick, and Hester drew a bases-loaded walk that forced home Walters with the game-ending run.

Allen finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, 2 RBIs and a run scored. Chadwick batted 2-for-2 and scored 3 runs. Singletary turned in a 2-for-3 game at the plate. Pait singled and had 2 RBIs. Brisson, Walters and Durden scored 2 runs each. Taylor and Jones scored 1 run each. Faircloth, Durden, Brisson and Hester had 1 RBI each.

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights improved to 2-0 in SAC-7 play and 5-4 overall. West Bladen will entertain South Columbus Tuesday night.
