RED SPRINGS – Freshman Rylee Chadwick walloped a grand slam home run, pitched a 4-hitter and struck out 10 batters to lead West Bladen to a 16-5 mercy-rule Three Rivers Conference softball victory over Red Springs Tuesday night.

The Knights grabbed a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning. Sophomore Jessalyn Vendrick hammered a double to right-centerfield, sophomore Hannah Pait walked, and freshman Mackenzie Singletary ripped a single to left field.

Junior Alyssa Suggs launched a sacrifice fly that scored Vendrick. Senior Kasee Singletary laid down a bunt single that plated Pait, and Sidnee Walters, the courtesy runner for Singletary, scored as senior Tatiana Hunt reached base on an error.

Red Springs whittled the lead to 3-2 in the 3rd, but the Lady Knights exploded for 8 runs in the 4th inning. Pait walked, and Mackenzie Singletary delivered a single to left. An error on Suggs’ bunt scored Pait. Kasee Singletary walked, and Hunt clobbered a double into the left field corner that scored courtesy runner Walters and Suggs.

Kasee Singletary darted home on a wild pitch. Junior Abigail Madden beat out a bunt single, senior Alara Cashwell walked, and Vendrick reached on a fielder’s choice that retired Hunt. Chadwick blasted her bases-clearing homer over the center field fence that boosted the lead to 11-2.

Hunt smacked a single in the 5th then sprinted home when Madden smashed a triple to right field. Madden bolted home on a wild pitch to grow the lead to 13-2. Two errors and a walk helped the Red Devils trim the margin to 13-5.

Kasee Singletary lined a double to left-center field to begin the Lady Knight 6th inning. Hunt drilled a double to right-center field that plated Singletary, and Madden laced a double to center field that scored Hunt. Cashwell crushed a double that scored Madden and boosted the lead to 16-5.

Chadwick walked 4 and allowed only 2 earned runs to pick up her 3rd victory of the season. Madden batted 4-for-5 with a triple, a double, 2 runs batted in and 3 runs scored to lead the West hitters. Hunt finished 3-for-5 at the plate with 2 doubles, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

Kasee Singletary batted 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and 2 runs scored. Mackenzie Singletary also batted 2-for-3. Chadwick slugged the grand slam homer. Cashwell slammed the RBI double and scored a run. Vendrick doubled and scored twice. Pait and Walters scored 2 runs each. Suggs had 2 RBIs and scored a run.

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights improved to 2-0 in TRC play and 3-1 overall. West Bladen will host Red Springs Friday night.
