CERRO GORDO – Junior Gracie Faircloth and senior Madison Taylor teamed up to pitch a 2-hitter and strike out 8 batters as West Bladen rolled to a 20-1 non-conference softball victory over West Columbus Friday night.

Faircloth pitched the 1st 4 innings and allowed a run on 2 hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out seven. Taylor worked a 1-2-3 5th inning in the circle and struck out one.

The Lady Knights capitalized on 11 hits, 16 walks, a passed 3rd strike and a hit batter to score 20 runs – 12 in the 2nd inning. Senior Kylie Durden’s run-scoring single keyed a 2-run Lady Knight 1st inning.

Senior Rylee Chadwick ripped a 2-run single and cleaned the bases with a 3-run double during West Bladen’s 2nd inning explosion. Faircloth laid down an RBI bunt, senior catcher Mackenzie Singletary singled and the Lady Knights took advantage of 8 walks and 2 errors in the inning.

Freshman Natalee Sykes doubled, and sophomore Marlie Walters and freshman Brenna Hester belted singles during the Lady Knights’ 3-run 3rd inning. Durden and Sykes cracked singles, and senior Kaitlynn Brisson slammed a run-scoring double in the 2-run 4th inning. Two walks and 2 errors added a WB run in the fifth.

Chadwick batted 2-for-4 with a double, 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored to lead the West Bladen hitters. Durden finished 2-for-2 at the plate with 3 runs scored, 2 walks and an RBI. Sykes was 2-for-2 with a double, 2 runs scored and an RBI. Brisson smashed an RBI double, walked twice and scored a run.

Hester singled, walked twice, scored twice and had an RBI. Singletary singled and walked twice. Sophomore Marlie Walters singled, scored twice and had an RBI. Faircloth singled, walked 3 times, scored a run and had an RBI.

Sophomore Holland Davis walked twice and scored twice. Sophomore Marlene Crabtree was hit by a pitch, walked and scored twice. Taylor scored a run and had 1 RBI. Junior Megan Pait and freshman Jahyrah Priest scored runs.

Sophomore Isabella Rogers batted 2-for-2 for the Lady Vikings and drove in the run. Sophomore Layla King was hit by a pitch and scored a run.

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights, now 2-4, are slated to host West Brunswick Monday.
