RED SPRINGS – Juniors Kylie Durden and Rylee Chadwick combined to pitch a 1-hitter, and West Bladen pounded out 16 hits en route to a 23-2 Southeastern Athletic Conference softball victory over Red Springs Tuesday night.

Durden started and pitched 2 innings allowing an unearned run on a hit while striking out three. Chadwick pitched 3 innings of relief and struck out 6 batters while allowing no hits and 1 unearned run.

The Lady Knights exploded for 8 runs in the opening inning and tacked on 7 more in the 2nd to open up an early 15-1 lead. West Bladen capitalized on 7 Red Springs errors, 11 walks and 2 hit batters.

Senior Jessalyn Vendrick walloped a double and finished 3-for-4 at the plate with 4 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Durden drilled a double and a triple, scored 3 runs and had 3 RBIs. Sophomore Gracie Faircloth batted 2-3 with 3 RBIs and a run scored.

Chadwick knocked in 3 runs, batted 2-for-3 and scored 3 runs. Junior Madison Taylor smashed a double, finished 2-for-4 at the plate and scored a run. Junior Mackenzie Singletary belted a single, walked 3 times and scored a run.

Sophomore Megan Pait, freshman Marlene Crabtree, sophomore Emmee Ward and sophomore Lena Trinidad connected for 1 hit each. Ward scored 4 runs, junior Kaitlynn Brisson, Pait and Trinidad scored 2 runs each. Crabtree and senior Violet Allen scored 1 run each. Ward drove in 2 runs, and Trinidad had an RBI.

Sydney Bell had the lone Red Springs hit, scored a run and drove in a run.

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights improved to 4-1 in SAC-7 play and 5-7 overall and are scheduled to host South Brunswick Wednesday at 6 p.m.
