DUBLIN – Senior Madison Collins pitched a 5-hit shutout and struck out seven to lead West Bladen to a key 4-0 Three Rivers Conference softball victory over South Columbus Friday night.

Collins did not walk anyone, and the Lady Knight defense played errorless ball as West Bladen handed the Lady Stallions their first loss of the season.

“Madison pitched really good,” said West Bladen Coach Pam Stephens. “We hit the ball all the way through the line-up from the top to the bottom. We have been working on that. I am really proud of these girls.”

Sophmore Kyla Reed ripped a one-out double in the Lady Knight first inning, and sophmore Alara Cashwell knocked her in with a single.

The West Bladen lead grew to 3-0 in the third inning. Senior Elizabeth Allbright yanked a lead-off single to leftfield, and a throwing error on Reed’s grounder sailed all the way to the right-centerfield fence and allowed Allbright and Reed to circle the bases.

Senior Brittney Landreth drilled a home run over the leftfield fence to begin the Lady Knight fourth inning.

Allbright batted a perfect 2-2 and scored a run for the winners. Reed finished 2-3 at the plate with 2 runs scored. Collins also batted 2-3. Landreth slugged the solo home run. Cashwell connected for the run-scoring single, and senior Abby Dawson added a single.

Junior firstbaseman Hailey Chestnutt batted a perfect 3-3 to lead the South Columbus hitters. Senior Alexis Suggs pitched a complete-game 9-hitter and struck out two for the Lady Stallions.

West Bladen improved to 5-3 in the Three Rivers and 5-4 overall and will host rival East Bladen Monday night.
