FAIRMONT – Senior Kaitlynn Brisson knocked in the go-ahead runs with a 7th inning double that lifted West Bladen’s Lady Knights to a 6-5 Southeastern Athletic Conference softball victory over Fairmont Monday night.

Fairmont carried a 4-1 lead into the 6th inning, but senior Kylie Durden ripped a triple into the right field corner to ignite the Lady Knight comeback. Junior Gracie Faircloth’s grounder plated Durden who reached base on an error.

Faircloth advanced on sacrifice bunts by Brisson and freshman Brenna Hester then scored when junior Megan Pait laced a single to left. Senior Madison Taylor walloped a double to right field that scored Pait with the tying run.

Durden yanked a 2-out single to right in the 7th inning, and Faircloth swatted a single to right, before Brisson hammered the double to left field that scored both runners for the 6-4 lead.

Freshman Kimberleigh Stevens doubled to start the Fairmont 7th, and courtesy runner Kersten Hunt eventually scored, but senior Rylee Chadwick retired 3 of the last 4 batters to end the game.

Chadwick struck out 13 batters but allowed 5 runs on 10 hits, 2 walks and a hit batter.

Durden batted 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and 3 runs scored to lead the West hitters. Brisson finished 2-for-3 with the key 2-run double. Faircloth batted 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. Taylor belted the RBI double. Pait cracked the RBI single and scored a run. Chadwick slammed a double, and Singletary smacked a single.

Durden sliced a 2-out double down the left field line in the 1st inning, advanced on Faircloth’s infield hit and scored on Brisson’s single.

Sophomore Kensley Newberry batted 3-4 and scored a run for Fairmont. Stevens finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double. Senior pitcher Lindsey Floyd capped the Lady Tornadoes 3-run 3rd inning with a 2-run double and was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Sophomore Madalyn Godwin batted 2-for-3 with an RBI double.

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights have won 8 of their last 9 games to improve to 5-0 in SAC-7 play and 9-5 overall. Fairmont is 3-4 in league play and 6-8 overall. The two teams will play again Wednesday at West Bladen at 6 p.m.
