BLADENBORO –Senior Kylie Durden batted 3-for-4 and drove in the go-ahead run in a 5-run 5th inning that propelled West Bladen to a 7-2 non-conference softball victory over West Brunswick Monday night.

The game was tied 2-2 when senior Rylee Chadwick ripped a single to left then stole 2nd base to begin the Lady Knight 5th. Durden walloped a 1-out double over the left fielder’s head to score Chadwick. Freshman Kali Allen swatted a single to right field that plated Durden.

After senior Madison Taylor walked, freshman Brenna Hester lined a single to right-center field that scored Allen. Sophomore Holland Davis belted a single to left-center field that scored Taylor and Hester and padded the lead to 7-2.

Chadwick pitched a 2-hitter and struck out 10 batters to earn the victory in the circle. She only issued 1 walk but had to pitch around 4 errors and both West Brunswick runs were unearned.

The Lady Trojans capitalized on the walk and 2 errors to score their 2 runs in the 1st inning. Chadwick smashed a single to left then stole 2nd base to start the West Bladen half of the first. Durden drilled a triple past the Trojan center fielder that scored Chadwick. After senior Kaitlynn Brisson beat out an infield hit, Allen’s squeeze bunt plated Durden to tie the game 2-2.

Durden finished 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Chadwick batted 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored. Hester was 2-for-3 with a double, 1 RBI and a run scored. Davis, Brisson and Allen collected 1 hit each. Allen and Davis drove in 2 runs each, and Allen and Taylor scored runs.

Senior Makaylee Sanders doubled, and senior Marissa Gainey singled for the Lady Trojan hits. Freshman Olivia Brown pitched 4.2 innings for the visitors and gave up 7 runs on 10 hits and struck out one. Senior Ava Caison worked 1.1 innings of scoreless relief and allowed 1 hit while striking out three.

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights improved to 3-4 and will open Southeastern Athletic Conference play Tuesday night at Clinton.
