BLADENBORO – West Bladen’s Lady Knights scored 8 runs in the bottom of the first inning Friday and were still batting when their Three Rivers Conference softball game was suspended by rain with West leading South Robeson 8-3.

The Lady Mustangs scored 3 runs in the top of the first on two walks, a hit batter, a run-scoring single by Haliya Williamson and a 2-run single by Harley Mills.

Tatiana Hunt laced a single to centerfield to begin the Lady Knight first, and junior Kyla Reed walked. Junior Alara Cashwell blasted a double to the left-centerfield fence that scored Hunt and Reed.

Senior Conner Brisson ripped a shot past the Lady Mustang third baseman that scored Cashwell with the tying run. Sophmore Alyssa Suggs walked and freshman Hannah Pait and sophmore Shelby Pharr were both hit by pitches to force home Brisson.

Freshman Lauren Pait drove in Suggs with a fielder’s choice. Hannah Pait raced home on a wild pitch, and junior Kasee Singletary reached base on a passed third strike that allowed Alexis Pittman, the courtesy runner for Pharr, to score.

Hunt lined a triple to centerfield that drove in Singletary and pushed the West lead to 8-3. The game was suspended at that point.
