CERRO GORDO – Lexi Bullard’s sacrifice fly scored Kristen Meares with the winning run Wednesday night as West Columbus rallied for a 7-6 Three Rivers Conference softball victory over West Bladen.

The Lady Knights took a 6-4 lead into the home seventh, but Lady Viking pitcher Leah Floyd hammered a lead-off triple to right-centerfield. Brittany Barnhill’s infield hit plated Floyd, and Faison yanked a single to left.

Kristen Meares walked and an error scored Barnhill with the tying run. Faison was forced out at the plate before Bullard launched the winning fly ball.

West Columbus took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an error, a Meares run-scoring double and an rbi single by Emily Britt.

The Lady Vikings scored 5 runs in the top of the second. Sophmore Jordan Benson walked, and freshman Alyssa Suggs beat out a bunt single. Sophmore Kyla Reed was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Benson dashed home on an error.

Sophmore Alara Cashwell slammed a double to left-centerfield that scored Suggs and Reed. Junior Carley Dawson’s infield hit plated Elizabeth Allbright, the courtesy runner for Cashwell. After a walk to Madison Collins, senior Brittney Landreth knocked in Carley Dawson with a single to centerfield.

Benson reached base on a fielder’s choice in the West Bladen fifth, stole second base and raced home on Suggs’ fielder’ choice to pad the Lady Knight lead to 6-2.

An error, a Floyd double, a fielder’s choice and Meares’ run-scoring single trimmed the margin to 6-4 in the home half of the fifth.

Landreth batted 2-4 with a run batted in for the Lady Knights. Teammate Abby Dawson also finished 2-4 at the plate. Cashwell doubled home 2 runs, and Reed, Carley Dawson, and Suggs added one hit each.

Benson scored 2 runs, and Reed, Carley Dawson, Allbright and Suggs scored one run each. Suggs had one rbi.

Collins allowed ten hits and 2 walks, while striking out eight for West Bladen. Only two of the seven West Columbus runs were earned.

Floyd batted 3-4 with a double, a triple and 2 runs scored to lead the Lady Vikings. Meares finished 2-3 with a double, 2 runs scored and 2 rbi’s. Faison and Britt both batted 2-4. Britt drove in 2 runs, and Faison drove in one and scored one.

West Bladen will host St Pauls Friday night.
