WHITEVILLE – Junior Kadance Hammonds pitched a 6-hitter and sophomore Kloe Sellers slugged a home run to lead Whiteville to a 12-2 Three Rivers Conference softball victory over West Bladen Thursday night.

Junior Emma Hooks cracked a single to leftfield and raced home when junior Tessa Nicholson lined a triple to right-center field in the Lady Wolfpack 1st inning. Nicholson scored on Sellers’ fielder’s choice for a 2-0 lead.

Senior Emily Hewett blooped a single to center to start the Whiteville 3rd inning, and Sellers launched a 2-run homer over the right field fence to up the count to 4-0.

Sophomore Xztaysha Porter led off the Lady Wolfpack 4th with a single, and junior Marissa Ivey drove her in with a double to left. Ivey scored on an infield out as the lead grew to 6-0.

Hammonds kept the Lady Knights hitless until sophomore Kylie Durden hammered a double into the right field corner with 2 out in the 5th inning. Hammonds struck out 2 and walked three.

Senior Abigail Madden smashed a lead-off double to left-center field in the West Bladen 6th inning. Sophomore Rylee Chadwick drilled a high line drive over the left field fence for a 2-run homer that trimmed the lead to 6-2.

Two outs later senior Alyssa Suggs laced a single to center field. Sophomore Mackenzie Singletary yanked a single to left, and senior Shelby Pharr belted a single to center field to load the bases, but a fielder’s choice ended the threat.

Porter’s double started a 6-run Whiteville 6th inning that ended the game on the mercy rule. Four singles and 3 errors produced the Lady Wolfpack runs.

Chadwick started in the circle and worked 5 innings for West, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits while striking out four. Madison Taylor relieved in the 6th inning and allowed 6 runs – only 1 earned – on 5 hits and 3 errors.

Chadwick’s 2-run homer led the Lady Knight hitters. Durden and Madden slammed doubles, and Suggs, Singletary and Pharr connected for one hit each.

Sellers batted 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, 2 runs scored and 3 runs batted in. Hewett finished 3-for-3 at the plate with 2 runs scored. Porter was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 runs scored. Nicholson tripled home a run and scored twice, and Ivey had an RBI double.
