WHITEVILLE – Ivy Hayes and Jenna Bullard combined to pitch a 2-hit shutout and lead Whiteville to a 7-0 Three Rivers Conference softball victory over West Bladen Friday night.

Hayes pitched the first 4 innings and allowed only a walk to Shelby Pharr while striking out six. Bullard worked the final 3 innings in the circle striking out four and allowing two hits.

Sophmore Alara Cashwell ripped a single to centerfield in the seventh inning for the Lady Knights, but courtesy runner Tinyauh Rhoda was called out for leaving base early. The next batter, junior Carley Dawson, lined a double to rightfield.

The Lady Wolfpack used a Kiara Wilson single, an error and a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Run-scoring doubles by Lauren Hilbourn and Carmen Hilbourn keyed a 3-run third inning for Whiteville. Three of those four runs were unearned.

Kourtney Grainger slugged a 3-run home run in the sixth inning to boost the final margin to 7-0.

Wilson batted 4-4 with 3 runs scored. Carmen Hilbourn finished 2-3 at the plate with a double, and Raeganne Sholar was 2-4 with a double.

West Bladen will travel to West Columbus Tuesday night.
